It's hard to believe how many new yarnbombs have been added in the last few months. I've been going through a very rough patch in my health so havent been out very much, but its amazing just how much you CAN do in a short space of time. I have added many new photos of PROJECTS under the Redfern Park and Cycleway Projects and I am going to add new project titles also so there's lots to look at! The yarnbombs I made with my mother Valerie in May were great fun. Such a wonderful way to spend time creatively together. Thanks mum! International Yarnbombing Day 2015 has come and gone in a flurry of preparation to cover 5 bike racks next to Redfern Park and give away nearly 4 dozen Yarnified Love Bombs. I had volunteers to help I had never met and they were fabulous and fun. You can see all the photos under their project names. Work on the FMS Hope Mandala continues too. So many mandalas and just one me! Be happy, Queen Babs aka Jane

It is the anniversary of when I began to learn to crochet and so I have been hooking for 2 whole years! I have learnt so much and there is still so much I could learn. And I like to learn! Many people have said to me they WANT to learn...well go on! Do it! You need a ball of 8ply yarn and a 4mm hook. No one to teach you? Try the internet. That is how I learnt. The brilliant thing is that there are so many tutorials online and on YouTube aimed at the beginner. Classes were not possible due to my being housebound and because I just didn't have the $75 an hour fee for the group class! There are also craft groups around. Hunt them down in your local area... or start one! Try Meetup: meet people in your local community who share your interests. I am a member of a couple groups and go to these social meetings when my health allows. And have you considered asking your friends and family if anyone knows anyone who could teach you?? This project is quite simple and even beginners can learn to make a granny square. Here are some photos of my Just Little Things Blanket 365 Days project where I make one square a day with the colour representing something I want to remember or celebrate. I hope it inspires you to get crafty!
Cheers, Jane aka Queen Babs Yes, i have a knitting machine :)Be afraid, be very afraid... I have a knitting machine and I am NOT afraid to use it! You are safe at the moment while I learn to use it, helped greatly by the Mr and by new friends Anne & Michael who visited and got us started. Learning (and some cursing) has begun. Redfern will be covered in new yarnbombs as soon as possible. It makes me smile to think of all the new ideas I have bouncing around in my fevered imagination. I have been interviewed by the amazing Amanda at Red Agape. When she told me about her belief that craft can be used as therapy, I thought, YES! I have been doing this for years and so was thrilled to be her first interview. Click on The Red Agape screenshot to go to the blog or the Facebook page of Queen Babs to catch up with more photos and info! I am also continuing with my Just Little Things Blanket #justlittlethings and am pretty happy with it so far! One square a day for 2015 (sometimes more!) and already I can see it will be colourful and represent so many little moments in my life this year. And we added a new yarnbomb to Redfern... First we had to remove the old Cherry Blossom Yarnbomb and replace it with this one for my friend Sharon Kane. Sharon sent me the yarn and buttons as a gift which was wonderful. We used to spend hours and hours together being crafty before I moved to Sydney. She is in my thoughts continuously.
There is more happening, but no doubt that is enough for now! Happy crafting friends, Jane aka Queen Babs I created a free New Year Flower pattern for you to celebrate the New Year. Happy New Year!! The pattern is on this website. Click on the flower to take you to the pattern! Whatever you are planning this year, may it be filled with happiness, good health, creativity, compassion and joy! And now... ...welcome to my 2015 Just Little Things Blanket! This year I am crocheting a 2 round granny square every day using 2 colours which represent something little I want to remember, celebrate or be grateful for.
Each block is only 6cm wide! I'm thinking 18 blocks by 20 (108cm x 120cm) which equals 360 blocks and 5 days of crocheting borders. Some days I am making 2 of the same to add the extra one at random moments. I am sewing the blocks together as I go, whip stitching the outside loops with the right sides together. Please visit the talented and excellent Bunny Mummy for an explanation of this! |
